Evitable Destiny is the debut book by Izabela Monick.

Firstly, Monick’s writing style is near flawless, and it was a joy to read one of the rare contemporary romance books which has also been well-written. However, despite a brilliant first 30% or so of the book, which smacked of potential and dark erotica, I have to say it was a little bit of a let-down. The plot became too confusing, too many overly-dramatic things happened to Julia (for example, the plane crash), and there were too many ‘big reveals’ (such as all the family relationships). I still wanted to finish the book, but became increasingly annoyed because of its missed potential.

Similarly, although the first part of the book was very erotic, when it actually came down to the sex scenes there really wasn’t a lot there; it felt like it should be the type of book which is massively dark but insanely erotic, yet instead when Julia and Chris finally got past the teasing, it constantly felt a little disappointing.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book and I really look forward to Monick’s next works, it’s just a shame it wasn’t tidied up enough for me during the second half.
