REVIEW: Keep – Karyn Lawrence

keepTitle: Keep
Author: Karyn Lawrence
Series: The Command #2
Genre: romantic suspense
Rating: ****

Although this book can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading Stay, the first in the series, beforehand as it will fill in some backstory and you will enjoy this so much more. This second instalment follows Shawn and Kara, just a few months after the end of the previous book.

I enjoyed this book a lot more in comparison to its predecessor; it reflects a more mature writing style, and replaces the insta-love with bickering chemistry, which is entirely believable and also leads to some hilarious conversation.

Although the events move fairly rapidly, the action and suspense sequence was compelling and demonstrated the strength of Kara’s character when faced with an utter psychopath (even if he is still a little OTT and one-dimensional, lacking in any redeemable, features to create a more complex character). The ending is both satisfying and heart-warming, with an epilogue straying from the normal ‘marriage, kids, happiness’ and instead setting up the next instalment. Can’t wait.
