This is Lily White back to her erotic, emotional best. Although this isn’t as overtly dark as many of White’s prior releases, there are dark undertones for sure and it packs a truly emotional punch. These two protagonists have a substantial amount of grit and pain to deal with, and it’s in the solace and discipline of each other that they can come to terms with it.

I was enthralled from the first page. 

Technically, there are taboo undertones here with the forbidden romance trope, but before you put this book down, it’s really quite firmly an undertone rather than a main part of the plot, and it’s dealt with maturely and rather beautifully. This truly is driven by the character development rather than the forbidden, and there’s a smattering of erotic and kinky scenes to go with…actual eroticism that has you…err…you know.

Overall, a wonderful balance of everything I love in a good book. Well done Lily White.
